Our history is one of those stories about a crazy engineer with the wild ideas and his team, whose work makes the world a better place. And of course, it's the story of victories and failures, frustration and inspiration.
It’s all started with the idea of making the perfect wind generator. Oleksandr was experimenting with different types of wind generators more than three years. Eventually, he made the first model of the wind panel. This young and unknown project was named SCIROCCO.
The first time idea was presented at Climatelaunchpad Ukraine. Scirocco wind panels project reached the final of the competition. (Odessa, Ukraine)
Scirocco received a grant for prototype development from DIY LAB incubator.
Presentation of the first prototype was done at Alternative Energy Week exhibition. (Kyiv, Ukraine)
After the successful presentation of the prototype, we got initial round of investment from the Iot Hub accelerator (Kyiv, Ukraine). Company’s name was changed to SIROCCO ENERGY.
During the R&D process, we visited few exhibitions to gather feedback from target users and adopt technology accordingly. That was SMART-BUILDING exhibition, Alternative Energy Week and Inter Build Expo.
We spent more than 5 months doing R&D for wind panels 2.0. One more engineer joined our team. At the end of the summer, we finished this prototype and installed it on the factory roof. The concept was a wind panel with 2 rows of blades placed vertically one after another. The idea was to get higher efficiency as the wind flow is used twice per panel rotation. But this assumption turned out to be false, because of major friction. Despite the failure, we got much deeper understanding of our product. This was the beginning of the wind panels 3.0
The main task was to reduce friction and number of elements. With the experience gained, our next panel has become considerably lighter, easier to manufacture and had less friction. After installing it on the factory roof we saw the panel is finally working as we expected. It was a very happy moment for us, which we were trying to achieve for a year and a half.
After design validation, we’ve applied for a patent.
Sirocco Energy team got an invitation to attend Energy Launchpad from E.ON in Essen. We spent 3 cool December's days with other 8 startups from 5 different countries and 30 mentors. The working prototype gave us an opportunity to work with partners and potential buyers. So we signed 2 letters of intent for pilot installation in summer 2018.
Right now, we are testing these locations to explore wind potential before the panel installation. To have a pool of potential clients with great wind energy potential once we’re ready for sales, we decided to concentrate on sites development along with technology enhancement. Our goals today are to complete the R&D and get 250 windy locations by the end of 2018.
